OBITUARY: Dan Osterhout, 63

Dan R. Osterhout of Weston, husband of Cathy Osterhout, died Friday, August 23, 2013. He was 63.

Born in Sharon, Pa., the son of the late Donald and Phyllis Osterhout, he had been a Weston resident for the last 16 years.

Mr. Osterhout received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Baltimore and a master’s degree in finance from Loyola University.

He was the managing director of Community Senior Capital, a wealth-management firm. Prior to this position, he served in a number of senior executive positions at Aon Corporation. He served as president and chief executive officer of the U.S. operations of Swiss Re New Markets. Mr. Osterhout also held a variety of senior positions with Alexander & Alexander. His career spanned 30 years in the insurance industry.

He was an avid New York Yankee fan.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Cathy, include three sons, Jason Osterhout of Burlington, Vt., Brandon Osterhout of San Francisco, Calif., and Jordan Osterhout of Weston; three cherished grandchildren, Vivian, Quincy and Curtis; a brother and sister-in-law, Thom and Carol Osterhout of Fort Myers, Fla.; brother and sister-in-laws, Bob and Linda Dear of Ellicott City, Md., Denny and Peggy Dear of Columbia, Md., and many treasured nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, David and Scott Osterhout.

Friends may greet the family Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, from 2-5 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A prayer service and celebration of Mr. Osterhout’s life will begin at 4 p.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Norwalk Grassroots Tennis, 394 West Ave., Norwalk, CT 06850, or to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
